Canadian violist Isabelle Roland enjoys a distinguished career as an orchestral musician, chamber artist, soloist, and pedagogue. Based in Vancouver, she serves as Assistant Principal Viola of the Vancouver Opera and Principal Viola of Lions Gate Sinfonia, and performs regularly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She served as Assistant Principal Viola of the Victoria Symphony and has appeared as soloist with orchestras under conductors including Yehudi Menuhin. A devoted chamber musician, she has performed with the Vancouver Academy Chamber Players, Blueridge Chamber Music Festival, Vancouver Chamber Players, and West Coast Chamber Music.
An active educator, Ms. Roland has been on the faculty of the Vancouver Academy of Music since 2003 and has served as Chair of the Viola Division since 2014. She is currently the Western Representative of the Canadian Viola Society and previously served as its Vice President. This past winter, she was invited to perform at the 50th International Viola Congress in Paris.
Roland is also the founder and artistic director of ViolaFest, a two-day festival dedicated to celebrating the viola and its vibrant artistic community.
